GlyCO2Chem develops an integrated circular carbon value chain centred on the catalytic conversion of captured COâ‚‚ and biogenic by-product glycerol into high-value chemical products.
The project combines two complementary carbon sources, biogenic COâ‚‚ from industrial processes and COâ‚‚ captured via Direct Air Capture (DAC) together with COâ‚‚ conditioning and liquefaction, and advanced catalytic conversion technologies to produce Glycerol Carbonate as a key platform molecule. By linking upstream carbon capture and processing with downstream chemical transformation and application validation, GlyCO2Chem establishes a coherent and scalable pathway for carbon valorisation.
Beyond molecule production, the project evaluates glycerol carbonate in real application environments, including sustainable fuel additive formulations and advanced battery electrolyte systems. This end-use validation ensures technical relevance, industrial feasibility, and measurable impact across the full value chain.
Through coordinated collaboration between industrial and academic partners, GlyCO2Chem contributes to the Clean Energy Transition by transforming biogenic and atmospheric carbon streams into practical, high-performance chemical solutions.
