GlyCO2Chem Consortium Meets in Reykjavík
15 - 16 September 2026
The GlyCO2Chem consortium met in Reykjavík, Iceland, on 15 September 2026 for its first in-person consortium meeting. Hosted by project coordinator Gefn, the meeting brought together partners from across Europe to review progress, exchange technical updates and coordinate the next stages of the project.
With GlyCO2Chem spanning the value chain from CO₂ capture and feedstock preparation to glycerol carbonate production and end-use applications, the meeting provided an opportunity to bring the different technical activities together. Partners presented the current status of their work and discussed upcoming activities, timelines and the interfaces between the project’s work packages.
Particular attention was given to the requirements connecting the different parts of the value chain, including CO₂ and glycerol feedstocks, glycerol carbonate production and purification, material requirements for end-use testing, and the data needed for life-cycle and techno-economic assessment.
The consortium also reviewed the overall project timeline and coordinated activities for the coming months as experimental and development work progresses across the project.
Technical visits in Iceland
The programme continued on 16 September with an optional technical visit organised by Gefn, providing participants with an opportunity to explore Icelandic activities relevant to the GlyCO2Chem project.
The visit included ON Power’s Hellisheiði geothermal power plant, Carbfix, Climeworks Direct Air Capture facilities, Gefn’s development facilities, where participants were introduced to the ongoing development of the glycerol carbonate process and project prototypes, and the GAJA biogas and waste processing facility. The programme provided practical perspectives on renewable energy, CO₂ capture and management, Direct Air Capture, biogenic resources and carbon utilisation.
The Reykjavík meeting provided an important opportunity to connect the technical activities across GlyCO2Chem and establish a shared picture of the project’s progress and upcoming work. The discussions and technical visits provided a strong basis for continued collaboration as activities across the different work packages become increasingly interconnected.
